MUMBAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline to submit comments on consultation paper related to the empanelment of auditors for digital addressable systems for broadcasting and cable sector.
The last date for receipt of written comments and counter comments from the stakeholders has been extended up to 5 and 19 February respectively.
No requests for any further extension of time for submission of comments shall be entertained.
The earlier deadline for submitting written comments from the stakeholders was 22 January and counter comments by 7 January. The consultation paper was issued on 22 December.
The comments and counter comments may be sent, preferably in electronic form to Sunil Kumar Singhal, Advisor (B&CS) on the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
The regulator has issued the consultation paper to empanel independent auditors for the technical and subscription audit of the digital addressable system (DAS) of distribution platform operators (DPOs).
Through the consultation paper, the authority has sought the views of stakeholders on various audit-empanelment related issues such as the scope of the audit, eligibility criteria and experience, length of empanelment, audit fee and payment terms, the time period for completion of audit work, de-empanelment, and reporting requirements of auditors.
The consultation process will enable it to prepare a comprehensive document to seek proposals from auditors in line with the industry requirement and formulate guidelines to auditors.
TRAI has clarified that the empanelment of the auditors and other related activities would be done only after the ongoing matter pending before Madras and Delhi High Courts are decided. The consultation paper is a preparatory work before calling proposals for empanelment of auditors, and has no bearing on the said regulations or ongoing litigations.
