MUMBAI: After a resounding success in Solapur, TelevisionPost.com’s on-ground initiative GroundPost now stops at Indore, the financial hub of Madhya Pradesh.
Set to take place on 27 May, the event has drawn many industry stalwarts who will share experience of and learning from the first two phases of digitisation, and how the industry can tackle contentious issues to move forward with billing and packaging.
Indore, along with Bhopal and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was part of Phase II of the digital addressable system (DAS) drive. Though set-top boxes (STBs) have been seeded, the multi-system operators (MSOs) are finding the going tough as far as packaging and consumer billing is concerned. There is resistance from the LCOs.
The Indore event features a galaxy of speakers that includes Hathway Cable & Datacom MD and CEO Jagdish Kumar, Videocon d2h CEO Anil Khera, IndiaCast CEO Anuj Gandhi, Ortel Communications CEO Bibhu Prasad Rath, UCN director Jagdish Palia, Siti Cable COO Mahipal Singh Rawat, GTPL COO Shaji Mathews, Hathway Mantra Cable and Datacom additional director Sudhir Sarin, Digicable vice-president Sameer Prabhakar, Cisco CTO – India service provider video Manoj Barara, Verimatrix sales director India and SAARC Naveen Kumar, Broadcom director business development Rahul Khosla, HSBC Telecom and Media analyst Rajiv Sharma and Taurus Mutual Fund VP and senior fund manager Sadanand Shetty.
Apart from the high-profile speakers, the event is also expected to be attended by over 250 delegates that include local cable operators (LCOs), distributors and independent MSOs. The delegates are expected not just from Indore but also from other cities in MP like Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior.
The event will begin with a presentation by TelevisionPost.com co-founder and CEO Himanshu Dhoreliya, followed by Indore research synopsis to be presented by TelevisionPost.com co-founder and editor-in-chief Sibabrata Das.
The event will comprise three sessions that include ‘CEOs Speak – Digitisation status check’, ‘Prospects of cable TV broadband in Madhya Pradesh’, and ‘Challenges of the Madhya Pradesh cable TV market’. Also on the agenda is a presentation by technology vendor Cisco on the Indian cable TV market.
Adding entertainment to the event will be the cast of Colors’ most viewed fiction show ‘Sasural Simar Ka’. The cable operators in Indore will get an opportunity to exchange some laughs and banter with the cast of ‘Sasural Simar Ka’.
“We were overwhelmed by the response we got from the stakeholders for our inaugural event in Solapur. We have created a certain benchmark in our first event and as we move into Indore, we hope to raise the bar for our future events. The Indore market is extremely competitive with the presence of many national and regional MSOs. It is also a nascent market as far as cable broadband is concerned. I am sure we will have a fruitful discussion on how to monetise digitisation,” said Dhoreliya.
The stated objective of GroundPost is to get key stakeholders on a single platform to discuss and deliberate on the way forward to monetise cable TV digitisation. GroundPost’s presenting sponsor is Colors, with Rishtey coming aboard as the powered-by sponsor. Associate partners are Cisco, Hathway Cable and Datacom, Siti Cable, Dolby, UCN and Food Food.
GroundPost will travel across the country, apart from Solapur and Indore, through a series of events aimed at making digitisation a success.
