ZEEL launches Bioskop and Veria Living channels in Indonesia

MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has added Indonesia to its expanding global portfolio with the launch of two channels, Zee Bioskop and Veria Living.

The Indonesian operations will be headed by Maria Liza Ginting, who will report to ZEEL business head APAC region Sushruta Samanta. The new office will be located in Jakarta.

The channels were launched today by ZEEL chairman Subhash Chandra in the presence of Samanta and Ginting. ‘Dance India Dance’ finalists Neeraj and Mohena Singh commenced the launch ceremony with a dance performance.

Chandra said, “Indonesia and India share a lot of similarities when it comes to culture, values and entertainment appetite, in addition to being maritime neighbours. Indonesia is economically one of the fastest growing markets with a huge potential for pay TV growth. I am confident these launches will flag off a new beginning for our venture and relationship between the two countries.”

Seeking to cement strong ties with Indonesia, Chandra said ZEEL would target to achieve one-third of its revenues from its international business.

“We launched our Indonesia operations today. We have engaged a brilliant team headed by Maria Liza Ginting. Zee’s strong distribution network and customised content has elevated the company to the level of a global media brand.”

Veria Living, a health and wellness channel, will showcase programmes spreading the message of wellness in the Indonesian market with the tagline ‘Go Well’. The channel is currently available on satellite Apstar 7, and will also be available in Indonesia for distribution. It aims to be a one-stop solution for those seeking overall wellness and healthy living guidance at home.

Veria Living Channel was launched in 2007 and is a preferred channel in USA. The programming line-up includes a wide range of health, wellness and fitness shows such as ‘Naturally Delicious’, ‘The Sweet Truth’, ‘Workout From Within’, ‘Rock Your Yoga’, ‘Model Guru Cameron’, ‘What Would Julienna Do?’ and ‘The Genesis of Healing’.

As reported by TelevisionPost.com earlier, ZEE Bioskop will be a Bahasa-language pay movie channel carrying very limited ads. The channel’s tagline is ‘Bollywood Banget’ which means truly Bollywood.

ZEEL, which has a library of more than 4,000 Hindi films, will showcase Bollywood movies dubbed in Bahasa on the new channel.

The initial response from our distribution partners has been very positive and I am sure the channel will live up to its tagline – Bollywood Banget.”

Zee Bioskop aims to bring romance, comedy, action and drama all dubbed in Bahasa. The channel will feature a programming line-up including Gelitik Senin, Selasa Tak Gentar, Kencan Bintang, Legendaris, Sinema Rasa Sayang, Sinema Perdana Jumat and Blockbuster Akhir Pekan.

ZEE business head APAC Sushruta Samanta said, “Zee will bring the best of Bollywood through Bioskop. It will be the first 24 hour Bollywood channel for wholesome entertainment. The second channel Veria Living, will spread the message of wellness. During the focused group research, we were amazed to see the massive response for our Bollywood content. ZEEL holds the largest Bollywood library, which will aid Zee Bioskop in setting new records in the viewership trend. Indonesia is definitely a key market for our APAC expansion plan and opening of Indonesia office is a first step towards that direction.”

ZEEL already operates Zee TV and Zee Cinema in the Indonesian market.

ZEEL, which aims to expand its reach to one billion viewers, currently reaches out to over 700 million viewers across 169 countries. The inclusion of Indonesia will mark ZEEL’s distribution in 170 countries.
