Zee TV gears up to launch 2nd season of ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’
MUMBAI: After extending its weekday original programming to Saturdays, Zee TV is now ready to launch the second season of its home-grown reality format called ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’.
The show will premiere on 12 December, airing from Saturday to Sunday at 9:30 pm.
With Zee TV extending its fiction programming to six days a week, the 9:30 pm slot was vacant for non-fiction programming.
Zee TV business head Pradeep Hejmadi said that with most people having working Saturdays, there is not much consumption of non-fiction content on Saturday in the early primetime. However, it makes sense to slot the non-fiction shows after 9 pm, as by that time people have returned home from work.
In ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’, 16 kids will present their acting prowess. Bollywood actors Vivek Oberoi and Sonali Bendre return as judges for a second season; they are joined this time by a new judge, director Sajid Khan, on the panel.
Hosted by Ravi Dubey and Rithvik Dhanjani, the talent hunt show, produced by Frames Productions, will put children in the ages of 5–13 years through a series of tasks and challenges to enhance their creativity, spontaneity and acting ability.
Hejmadi said, “With the success of ‘DID Li’l Masters’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’—two of Zee TV’s home-grown formats centred around kids’ talents—the channel is the pioneer of the space. The new season of ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ looks out for children with an ability to entertain. The objective is to create a positive atmosphere that helps these talented kids emerge as well-rounded actors. We look forward to a season packed with performances and some great entertainment.”
Incidentally, the channel had aired the debut season of ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ in 2013, after which it took a break for one year. “We tend to give some break between the kids-based talent shows. We had started work on the show months ago, in terms of concept, production, etc.,” added Hejmadi.
Over the last six months, the channel has conducted auditions across Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Nagpur, Patna, Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore, Lucknow, Ranchi and Dehradun.
Having recently completed the audition process, the selected kids will now undergo intensive workshops to hone their acting talent and further develop skills like singing and dancing.
In order to get the progress of the participants evaluated rightly by the jury, the channel will not open up audience voting. It is presently evaluating the move to open public voting at a later stage of the show.
The channel has roped in Surf Excel as the title sponsor and Patanjali Dantkanti as the co-powered by sponsor for the show.
