Zee TV brings back Govinda after 14 years with ‘DID Super Moms 2’

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Govinda is making his comeback on the small screen after 14 years. He will now be seen on Zee TV’s dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance Super Moms 2’.

The dancing superstar will join the DID judges Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis in the second season of Dance India Dance’s extension Super Moms.

Veteran actor and head judge Mithun Chakraborty will not be part of this season owing to date overlap.

Zee TV programming head Namit Sharma said, “We would have loved to have a season with both Mithun and Govinda, but we just thought we wanted to bring one casting spin to this season and Govinda allowed us that.”

The show will launch on 28 March, airing at 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday. It will replace the channel’s music reality show ‘Saregamapa L’il Champs’.

Sharma added that they are very happy with what Zee is achieving in the non-fiction space. “We have had one of the most successful seasons of ‘Saregamapa’ and it has even been a big success in the music reality space in recent years.”

He further mentioned that the first season of the franchise had fetched about 3.5 TVM (television viewership in millions) and was the No 1 non-fiction show much of the time it ran on air.

The second season of the show will see some changes in the format, which will be revealed later. Besides the judges, ‘DID Super Moms 2’ will see another change with actor Karan Wahi returning to the channel after 11 years as host.

The 11-week series will commence with the auditions of the show, moving into week-on-week eliminations.

“The format allows us a lot of storytelling and gets moms come on the channel to display their talent. We are happy to bring it back as it offers family-friendly content. There are some interesting changes in the format which will be revealed as we go along,” he stated.

Produced by Essel Vision Productions Ltd, ‘DID Super Moms 2’ will showcase numerous inspirational stories of mothers who have learnt dance through YouTube videos, others who did so against stiff opposition from families, as well as those who run their own dance schools. These will be done through the top 15 contestants selected after auditions across 16 cities.

The top 15 are presently being trained in different dance forms along with strength training workshops under different coaches.

While the show is being promoted across mediums, the team is laying extra focus on digital. The channel is currently working on a partnership in the digital space that will have a big play in the voting stage on digital platforms.

As per sources, the show has already roped in three sponsors, namely, Aircel, LIC, and Sugarfree.
