Times Group to set up digital video biz unit, hires Rajesh Bahl as CEO
MUMBAI: Media conglomerate Times Group is setting up a business unit focused on the production of digital video content. The company has roped in former Eros Digital COO Rajesh Bahl as CEO of the unit.
In an internal email to employees, Times Group MD Vineet Jain said that digital video content unit will be developed as an independent initiative. Rajesh will report to Vineet Jain and work closely with the shareholder group in developing this business.
Times Group’s niche magazine publication arm Worldwide Media, which publishes magazines like ‘Femina’, ‘Topgear’ and ‘Lonely Planet’, has identified digital video content as a strategic growth area.
“As India’s digital revolution develops, there is a rapidly emerging growth in the consumption of digital video content. As India’s leading media company, we have a great opportunity to reach our consumers wherever they are. Video is an exciting opportunity for us to communicate experiences, more than just information, and to that end, we will be developing a business unit focused on the production of digital video content. While many of our group brands are today developing digital video strategies, this unit will be an independent initiative, focused on producing powerful, compelling content for our consumers and our advertisers,” Jain said in a memo to employees.
“To lead this initiative, we have appointed Rajesh Bahl as the CEO. Rajesh will report to me and work closely with the shareholder group in developing this important new business,” the memo added.
With more than 20 years of experience, Bahl has driven growth in the online video, OTT, music OTT, digital advertising, digital marketing, content production, content distribution and monetisation, content marketing and digital transformation space for high-profile global companies like Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Star India and Eros International Media.
His last corporate stint was with Eros International Media Ltd, where he was COO of Eros Digital.
After the Eros stint, he embarked on his entrepreneur journey and co-founded two digital media-focused businesses, namely 04 Digital Media (online video publishing and digital video content-focused brand solutions agency) and Integrated 360365 (integrated digital marketing, creative and performance agency) and ran them as CEO for close to five years.
Under 04 Digital, an entity called Mash Up Brand Solutions was formed in strategic partnership with GroupM, which forayed into digital video content production and content marketing for brands.
