MUMBAI: Star India’s free-to-air (FTA) channel Star Utsav pipped Zee Anmol to take the top position in the rural Hindi-speaking market (HSM), as per data provided by BARC India for Week 29. Zee Anmol moved to the second position.
Barring these two changes, there was no change in the pecking order in the rural HSM for Hindi GECs.
Top shows in rural HSM
‘Jodha Akbar’ continued to be the leading show in the rural markets, followed by ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, ‘Bandini’, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ and ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’.
The genre as a whole did not see any major change in any of the markets.
In the urban plus rural markets, Star India’s FTA channel Star Utsav moved up to the fourth position behind Star Plus, Zee TV and Colors in that order.
Zee TV not only maintained its position as the No. 2 GEC but also increased its impression in thousands. It was helped by ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, which featured among the top five of programmes.
Life OK too moved up to the fifth spot from the sixth position it had held last week.

Zee TV & Zee Studios business head Akash Chawla said, “It is after a very long time that a singing reality show has broken records on television. ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ is not only an asset for Zee TV but also for the industry that has gained exemplary talent from the platform season after season. The success of the current season also infuses the belief that reinventing formats that meet audience expectations in today’s fragmented scenario can deliver superlative results.”
