Star Plus reclaims top spot from Colors in Week 48
MUMBAI: Star Plus upstaged Colors to reclaim the Hindi GEC throne in the week ended 2 December.
Colors was pushed to the second position, according to BARC data for Week 48. The Hindi GEC from Viacom18 had topped the Hindi GEC chart in Week 42 on the back of ‘Naagin 2’.
The Star India-owned channel was pumped up by strong performance of its fiction shows ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ and ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’. The premiere of Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ also played a major role in the channel’s rise.
Star Plus was the numero uno channel not only in urban HSM but also in urban and rural HSM combined. The channel’s big growth came from the urban market.
Top Hindi GECs in Urban+Rural HSM
In urban + rural HSM, Star Plus dislodged Colors to take the top spot.
Sony Entertainment Television (SET) moved up to the fourth spot. Rishtey saw the biggest gain as it moved to the sixth position from tenth. Sony Pal and Star Utsav saw a fall in their ranking, with the latter nose-diving to the bottom of the ladder.
Top shows in Urban+Rural HSM
Star Plus again ruled the top 5 with two shows. Colors, Rishtey and Zee TV had one show each.
Top Hindi GECs in Urban HSM
In urban HSM, Star Plus gained the No. 1 spot while Colors was at No. 2. Tthere was no other change in the pecking order except for the entry of Rishtey in top 10 and the exit of Star Utsav from the list.
Top shows in Urban HSM
Three out of the week’s top five programmes were from Star Plus. Colors and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) had one show each in the top 5.
Top Hindi GECs in Rural HSM
In rural HSM, Sony Pal retained the top position for the second straight week. Rishtey rose to the second position from fourth. Star Utsav was down to No. 4. S
Star Plus and Colors swapped positions. SET swapped the ninth position with Big Magic, which was down to No. 10.
Top shows in Rural HSM
‘Naagin 1’ was again at the top position, pipping Sony Pal’s ‘Baal Veer’, which was the top show in the previous week. ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ entered the top 5. ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ was nowhere in the top 5.
