Star Plus’ new programming drives
MUMBAI: In February 2017, Hindi GEC Star Plus had launched the spin-off ‘Dil Bole Oberoi’ of their popular show ‘Ishqbaaz’.
Now after almost four months, the channel has decided to merge the spin-off with the original show. By the end of July, Star Plus will merge both the storylines and will air ‘Ishqbaaz’ as a one-hour show.
‘Dil Bole Oberoi’ was touted as the first spin-off of an Indian TV show that explored other characters from its original show. ‘Ishqbaaz’, which is produced by 4 Lions Films, was initially a story of three brothers—Shivaay (Nakuul Mehta), Rudra (Leenesh Mattoo) and Omkara Oberoi (Kunal Jaisingh), but it later morphed into a romantic drama as the focus shifted to Shivaay and Anika (Surbhi Chandna). ‘With Dil Bole Oberoi’, the producers tried to explore the story of Rudra and Omkara.
Star Plus is also changing the time slot of its recently launched show ‘Tu Sooraj Mein Saanjh, Piyaji’. It was launched as an afternoon show airing at 1 pm, but by August, the channel will be shifting the air time of the show to 7 pm.
Produced by Shashi-Sumeet Productions, the show ‘Tu Sooraj Mein Saanjh, Piyaji’ will replace the channel’s long-running show ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya.’ ‘Tu Sooraj Mein Saanjh, Piyaji’ is a sequel to the channel’s flagship show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’,
The sequel stars Rhea Sharma and Avinesh Rekhi, along with Neelu Vaghela and Kanika Maheshwari, who reprise their roles from the earlier series. The show maps the story of Kanak (Rhea Sharma) and her struggles to earn the trust of her in-laws.
Star Plus is working on two new shows—‘Ishq Gunaah’ and an untitled project which will be aired soon. The channel has acquired format rights to the popular American series ‘Lip Sync Battle’. It is also planning to bring back the new season of ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, which will be judged by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
