Star Plus continues to rule Hindi GEC genre, DD National rides on cricket to find space in top 10

MUMBAI: Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) Zee TV and Colors slipped two places down in a week that saw a fall in viewership for the genre.

While Zee TV fell to the fifth position in the week ended 9 June, Colors settled at No. 7 in the urban + rural Hindi-speaking market (HSM).

Zee TV collected 48.79 crore impressions in Week 23, a decline of 7.61% from the preceding week. Colors garnered 42.24 crore weekly impressions, down 4.89%.

Free-to-air (FTA) channels Rishtey and Zee Anmol bettered their performances, grabbing the third and fourth places respectively. While Rishtey witnessed a growth of 5.43% with 53.08 crore weekly impressions, Zee Anmol increased its viewership by 15.39% to collect 48.96 crore impressions in Week 23.

Week 23 also saw the new entry of DD National into the chart. The public broadcaster occupied the sixth spot with 43.51 crore weekly impressions. The airing of the ICC Championship matches between Indian and Pakistan and between India and Sri Lanka on DD National helped the channel garner a lot of eyeballs.

Star Plus continued to rule the genre with 61.78 crore weekly impressions. The channel, though, saw a drop of 4.71% in viewership compared to the previous week.

Sony Pal held on to the second position with 53.97 crore weekly impressions, registering a fall of 8.79% in its viewership.

SET ended up at the bottom of the chart with 32.23 weekly impressions. Sony Sab and Star Utsav dropped to the eighth and ninth ranks respectively. Life OK was nowhere on the chart.

Top 5 shows in U+R HSM

DD National’s telecast of the ICC Championship match between Indian and Pakistan grabbed the top spot on the chart. This was followed by its airing of the ICC Championship match between Indian and Sri Lanka, which got the second position.

Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ slipped to the third spot, followed by Colors’ ‘Naagin 2’ at No. 4 and Zee TV’s ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa LI’l Champs’ at No. 5.

Top Hindi GECs in Urban HSM

DD National entered the chart at the seventh spot with 17.84 crore weekly impressions.

Sony Pal, Rishtey and &TV dropped a position each while Star Utsav exited the chart.

Star Plus topped the chart in urban HSM with 40.65 crore weekly impressions, marking a drop of 7.82%. It was followed by Zee TV with 28.95 crore weekly impressions, a fall of 5.47%.

Zee TV’s ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’ led the chart as ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ slipped to the third rank.

Colors’ ‘Naagin 2’ stayed at the second place. Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ dropped to the fourth spot.

The ICC Championship match between Indian and Pakistan on DD National entered the top 5 from the bottom.

Top Hindi GECs in Rural HSM

DD National entered the list at No. 4 with 25.66 crore weekly impressions, while Star Utsav slipped to the fifth position.

Zee TV fell to the seventh rank, below Star Plus. Colors also dropped two places to be at No. 10.

Sony Sab fell to No. 9 from No. 7 in the earlier week. Big Magic was at No. 8 while Life OK went out of the top 10 list.

Sony Pal stayed at the top with 40.26 crore weekly impressions, albeit suffering a fall of 9.34%.

Rishtey and Zee Anmol, which witnessed their ratings grow, remained No. 2 and 3 respectively. Rishtey recorded 39.82 crore weekly impressions, a growth of 5.98%, whereas Zee Anmol, with 38.05 crore weekly impressions, saw its ratings grow 13.99%.

Top 5 shows in rural HSM

The ICC Championship matches on DD National, namely India vs Pakistan, and India vs Sri Lanka, occupied the first and the second positions respectively.

Sony Pal’s ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah’, which led the chart last week, dropped to the fifth position.

Zee Anmol’s ‘Jamai Raja’ replaced Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ at No. 3.

Star Utsav’s ‘Bairi Behna’ replaced Sony Sab’s ‘Balveer’ at No. 4. Zee Anmol’s ‘Tashan-e-Ishq’ went out of the chart.
