Sony TV unveils reality show ‘Power Couple’, lines up sponsors
GOA: Multi Screen Media’s flagship Hindi GEC Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has unveiled its upcoming big-ticket reality show, ‘Power Couple’.
SET, which in the past introduced many international formats in India, including ‘Idol’, ‘X Factor’, ‘Fear Factor’, ‘Big Brother’, ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and ‘Power of 10’, is pinning its hopes on ‘Power Couple’.
‘Power Couple’ will launch on Saturday, 12 December at 8.30 pm band. While during the weekends there will be two 90-minute episodes, where the celebrity participants (couples) will be fighting it out for the title, the channel will also air half-an-hour episodes during the weekdays (Monday–Friday) at 10 pm, featuring the couples and their stories.
“We have many firsts to our credit when it comes to bringing big reality show formats and ‘Power Couple’ is the next attempt in the same line. Non-fiction has always been our strong point and we are sure that with its unique and distinct approach, ‘Power Couple’ will be another success,” said MSM CEO NP Singh.
He added that the show is built on the pillars of love, romance and positivity. “It’s a show which the whole family can sit together and watch, and will make husbands and wives hold hands while watching.”
SET has roped in Ponds as a presenting sponsor and Priyagold Snakker and Ching’s Secret as powered-by sponsors. Iodex and Dettol are also on board as pain relief and hygiene partners. The channel is looking at 3–4 more associate sponsors for the show.
“We have got tremendous response from advertisers for the show. There are many who also want in-programme placements,” said SET Sr VP of marketing Anup Vishwanathan.
The channel is going all out to promote the first Indian adaptation of the Israeli format show created by Abot Hameiri, and owned by Dori Media.
Colosceum Media is producing the big-budget show, which is being shot here in Goa in a grand villa with a beautiful garden and a pool, overlooking a river.
The 13-week property will see 10 celebrity couples—TV stars Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh, Apurva and Shilpa Agnihotri, Pratyusha Banerjee and Rahul, Delnaaz Irani and Percy, film stars Ashmit Patel and Mahek Chahal, Rahul Dev and Mugdha Godse, cricketer Salil Ankola and Ria, dancers Sandip Soparkar and Jesse Randhawa, TV producer Naved and Sayeeda, and model Shawar Ali and Marcela.
These couples will undergo a rigorous test of love along with their better halves in the ‘Power Couple Villa’ and the challenges will prove how well they know each other.
“The selection of contestants is based on the fact that we wanted to show modern relationships. There are couples who are married for years, then there are few who have just came together. There are disparities, but these are real-life stories, which will strike the chord,” Vishwanathan added.
During weekdays, the show will replace one of SET’s longest-running periodicals, ‘Maharana Pratap’.The channel is yet to take a call on whether to pull the plug on the show or shift its timing. When asked, Vishwanathan confirmed, “We will see if the show has enough steam left and decide on whether to end it or put on other time band.”
