Sony to launch new fiction show on 3 Apr; two more in the pipeline

MUMBAI: Hindi GEC Sony Entertainment Television (SET) is launching new fiction shows to strengthen its weekday programming.

SET is set to launch a romantic drama ‘Jaat Ki Jugni’ on 3 April. This will air every Monday to Friday at 8.30 pm.

The channel is also working on two new shows—a historical titled ‘Porus’ and the drama ‘Rab Se Manga Tujhe’. The launch dates of these two shows have not been finalised yet.

‘Jaat Ki Jugni’, the first among the new shows to launch, will replace Kavita Barjatya Productions’ family drama ‘Ek Rishta Sajhedari Ka’, which will go off air by the end of this month.

Produced by Rashami Sharma Productions, ‘Jaat Ki Jugni’ is said to be inspired by the 1993 Bollywood movie ‘Anari’, which starred Karisma Kapoor and Venkatesh. The plot of the show is quite similar to that of the film. The series features Madirakshi Mundle of ‘Siya Ke Ram’ fame and Vishal Vashishtha of ‘Ganga’ fame in lead roles.

Set in the backdrop of Haryana, it is the story of a girl named Munni who falls in love with a local boy named Bittu. Munni has been brought up by her three brothers after their parents’ death. They make sure to keep Munni away from the outside world.

Among the upcoming shows, ‘Porus’ is a Greek historical drama revolving around King Porus, who fought against Alexander the Great in the battle of the Hydaspes and was the biggest obstacle in Alexander’s quest to conquer the Indian subcontinent. ‘Rab Se Manga Tujhe’, on the other hand, revolves around a girl suffering from a health problem.

‘Porus’ is produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary of Swastik Productions. It will be the first Greek historical show to be showcased on a Hindi general entertainment channel.

Tewary’s mythological series ‘Shani’ has succeeded in grabbing audience interest and has entered BARC India’s chart of the top 5 shows. Earlier, Tewary had also produced the mythological show ‘Suryapatra Karn’.
