Sony Music goes big on acquisitions for 2014
MUMBAI: Sony Music is going big on acquisitions in Hindi and down South for 2014. The label has acquired the music rights of the Homi Adajania multi-starrer ‘Finding Fanny’.
The film stars seasoned actors Nasserudin Shah and Dimple Kapadia along with gen-next stars Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor in prominent roles. The film is based on a road trip set in Goa that follows the journey of five characters.
The music is a quirky mix of comedy and romance and has been composed by music director and guitarist Mathias Duplessy. The soundtrack also features Sachin-Jigar who have composed a special dance track.
Sony Music marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal said, “We are proud to be associated with Maddock films and Fox Star Studios for one of the most promising movies of 2014. Mathias Duplessy, who has composed the title song ‘Fanny Re’, is highly creative and experimental with his compositions that suitably matches with the theme of the movie.”
The music of the film will be released and made available digitally on 11 August.
‘Finding Fanny’ is an off the wall, comical story about a bunch of oddballs who venture out to find Fanny. In the process, they discover a strange sense of solace and love among each other. The film is slated for release on 12 September 2014.
Meanwhile, the south arm of the music label Sony Music South has also acquired the music rights for big releases of 2014.
The music company has a line-up of 11 films from prominent banners that are touted to have creative content and music.
Sony Music South has acquired Suriya and Samantha’s awaited film ‘Anjaan’ which has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, KV Anand’s ‘Anegan’, GV Prakash’s ‘Irumbu Kuthirai’, Kamal Hassan’s ‘Uttama Villain’ that has music by Ghibran and ‘Meagaamann’ directed by Magizh Thirumeni which has S. Thaman as the composer.
It has also bagged the music rights of the period film ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’, which has been composed by the Oscar winning A R Rahman. The label has recently released a single from the film ‘Vaanga Makka Vaanga’.
In addition, they also have UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Sigaram Thodu’ and the Sivakarthikeyan starrer ‘Rajini Murugan’ which has music composed by music composer D. Imman.
Sony Music South head Ashok Parwani added, “After the grand success at major award functions last year, we are really looking forward to the new releases of 2014. We are working with all major production banners and believe that the music from each film will be unique and play a pivotal role in the success of the film.”
