Pankaj Dheer steps into Tiwari’s shoes as CINTAA gen secy

MUMBAI: Following the sudden demise of Dharmesh Tiwari last month, the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) were left in a lurch with one of their most prolific members having left them.

However, going by Tiwari’s famous last sentence—‘The show must go on’, an emergency meeting was called for all members of CINTAA to choose a suitable replacement for the departed leader.

The members unanimously voted for popular actor and CINTAA committee member Pankaj Dheer as the new honorary general secretary of the organisation.

Confirming the news to TelevisionPost.com, Dheer said, “We were very ably guided by Mr Tiwari who we unfortunately lost. It is a very big gap to fill in as there are a lot of people who are still facing problems within the industry. We need a lot of reforms and I will work for them to the best of my abilities.”

CINTAA VP Gajendra Chauhan added, “Dheer is a very balanced person with a vast experience within the industry. He knows his job well and we are sure he will do well.”

Dheer, who was not an office bearer, was inducted into the committee last year. As per the election results of the 13 elected members of the CINTAA executive committee for 2013–14, Dheer got 420 votes and was appointed chairperson of the scrutiny committee. He was also a member of the care and programme committees.

Dheer aims to introduce regularity into the industry. His immediate agenda includes ensuring that wages are paid on time and improving the quality of food provided on location and shooting premises.

“There are about 8,000 people registered with CINTAA, right from Amitabh Bachchan to the new actor on the block, but there is not enough work available. We need to create a bank of actors so that the producers can give them a chance equally. All the reforms have to come in,” Dheer added.

He further added that there are still many production houses that are not following the MoU released by CINTAA earlier this year. The producers’ body is huge and thus it is a difficult job, but they have to make sure that the MoU is followed, he stated.

Meanwhile, the FWICE has chosen its office bearer and general secretary of the Cine Singers’ Association Himanshu Bhatt as president of FWICE through an election held recently. Bhatt confirmed the news to TVP.
