Oscar Awards to air live on Star Movies on 27 February

MUMBAI: The 89th Academy Awards will air live on 27 February on Star Movies, Star Movies HD and Star Movies Select HD at 5:30 am with a repeat at 8:30 pm. The red carpet kicks off the action.

The Oscars will wrap up the 2017 awards season in Hollywood. The show will be hosted for the first time by Jimmy Kimmel. He has hosted the Emmy Awards in both 2012 and 2016, and helmed the 2008 ESPYs. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! star has also tackled the hosting gig for the American Music Awards five times.

“Yes, I am hosting the Oscars. This is not a prank. And if it is, my revenge on @TheAcademy will be terrible& sweet. Thx to @alsformalwear,” Kimmel had tweeted shortly after it was announced in December that he would be hosting the event.

Questions remain. Will ‘La La Land’ be sweeping the Oscars with its already record breaking 14 nominations or can ‘Moonlight’ stun with a Best Picture win? Can Denzel Washington win his third acting Oscar and join the likes of Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep or will Casey Affleck win his first Oscar? Can Dev Patel become the first Indian to win an acting Oscar? Will all the four winners in the acting categories be people of colour?

Oscar presenters will include last year’s acting winners Leonardo DiCaprio, Brie Larson, Mark Rylance and Alicia Vikander. Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Sting, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will light up the Dolby Theatre with musical performances of their nominated songs at the 2017 Oscars.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these world-class artists to the Oscars. These performances will not only celebrate the five extraordinary nominated original songs, but also the integral part music plays in movies,” said 89th Oscars producers Michael De Luca, Jennifer Todd.
