Multi Screen Media’s movie slate to have Big B

MUMBAI: Multi Screen Media (MSM) entered the movie production business in 2014 with the aim to make films driven by content. Armed with a co-production strategy, it launched the horror flick ‘Darr @ The Mall’ with Contiloe Entertainment and ‘Youngistaan’ with Pooja Entertainment & Films. Though neither of the films performed as expected, MSM is taking its movie business slow and is looking to correct its steps in terms of content.

Speaking to TelevisionPost.com, MSM Motion Pictures deputy president and head Sneha Rajani said, “We are making sure we come up with content that is engaging, evoking and entertaining, and we are not going after any particular genre.”

The company has a comedy film ‘Ghoomketu’ with Phantom Films lined up for release in October–November, following which viewers might see the release of its romantic comedy ‘Mango’ with Kaleidoscope Entertainment. ‘Mango’ was initially slated to release in April, but it got postponed due to several issues. Rajani revealed that ‘Mango’ will release by the end of this year.

“We are not in any rush and taking it slowly. Some releases have not done well so we are looking to correct that,” she added.

Thus, for 2015, MSM Motion Pictures has announced ‘Piku’ in association with Amitabh Bachchan’s Saraswati Entertainment Creations Ltd (SECL), Shoojit Sircar and Ronnie Lahiri’s Rising Sun Films.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Moushumi Chatterjee and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles, ‘Piku’ will be directed by Shoojit Sircar. The film will go on the floors in August 2014 and is slated to release on 30 April 2015.

Bachchan has been associated with the network through various shows, and it was this association that led to the idea of this movie. Besides, as he was an admirer of Sircar’s work, a meeting involving the three kick-started the movie project.

“‘Piku’ gives us that opportunity to co-create engaging and high quality content which we believe will entertain our audience the world over. Working with Mr Amitabh Bachchan yet again in my new role is an absolute honour. We are very excited to team up with Saraswati Entertainment Creations Ltd and Rising Sun Films for ‘Piku’,” Rajani said.

Sircar added, “The charisma of Mr Bachchan, the seamless acting of Deepika, the versatile flair of Irrfan Khan and the evergreen Moushumi Chatterjee will make ‘Piku’ an experience for me. I am looking forward to this fantastic opportunity of working together with such gifted talent from the industry. We are very happy to partner MSM Motion Pictures and Saraswati Entertainment Creations Ltd to bring this wonderful film to the audience early next year.”

Rajani further revealed that there is a lot of activity expected within the next two to three months. However, the team is not looking at any specific number of releases per year. Moreover, the company will also produce movies independently within the next one year.
