MP & Silva is FA Malaysia’s global advisor for media and commercial rights
MUMBAI: International sports media rights agency MP & Silva has announced its appointment by the Football Association of Malaysia (Fam) as its global advisor for all media and commercial rights for an extensive line-up of Fam competitions. The goal is to extend Fam’s broadcast reach and maximise the commercial potential of its properties.
The 15-year deal begins in 2016 and comprises worldwide media rights covering an extensive line-up of competitions organised by the Fam, including the Malaysia Super League, the Malaysia Premier League, the FA Cup, the Malaysia Cup and the Piala Sumbangsih Match. The agreement covers domestic and international rights, including all media platforms and devices including terrestrial free-to-air (FTA) television, satellite and cable television, internet protocol television (IPTV), in-flight television, mobile internet and video-on-demand rights.
The partnership also sees the establishment of the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) between MP & Silva and the Fam. MP & Silva’s advisory role will aim to develop and implement media distribution and commercial strategies in relation to sales of media rights in close collaboration with the Fam under their authority, in addition to production and technical services to develop offerings with high-production values.
MP & Silva founding partner Andrea Radrizzani said, “We are delighted to have secured this long-term agreement with the Fam, and this would be the biggest deal for a local league ever done in Asia and highlights the Fam’s dedication towards professionalising the league. We are committed to share MP & Silva’s international expertise and local knowledge with our comprehensive and extensive knowledge of football rights management.
“We are proud to be partners of this progressive initiative and are looking forward to working with them and advise on all TV, digital media and sponsorship rights for the M-League and are heartened by their collaborative approach to establish the FMLLP.”
MP & Silva MD Asia Pacific Beatrice Lee said, “This is an important initiative for the Fam and our company, and this new distribution approach will only benefit Malaysian Football. Our goal is to work closely with all the major broadcast platforms and media in Malaysia and across the region to showcase their leagues and competitions.”
Key to MP & Silva’s appointment was their international experience and extensive expertise in media rights distribution in Asia. They most recently were appointed by the Ekstraklasa Polish Football League and the Belgian Football League for the domestic and worldwide distribution of their media rights. MP & Silva are also official media advisors to the Olympic Council of Asia, the FIA Formula E, the Association of National Olympic Committees and are the International Development Partners to the Scottish Professional Football League, in addition to offering media production and sponsorship consultancy.
Fam president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said, “This marks a new era for the Fam and we are very excited by the prospect of this new partnership that can only benefit Malaysian football in the long run. MP & Silva brings a high-level of professionalism, expertise and international experience that instantly elevates our organisation and we look forward to seeing this partnership benefit our leagues and competition.”
