IPL 10 continues to impact viewership of Hindi GECs
MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to impact the ratings of Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs), particularly in the urban markets. A similar trend was visible in the genre viewership for the week ended 21 April.
Though the positions of the Hindi GECs remained unchanged in the urban + rural Hindi-speaking market (HSM), all of them witnessed a drop in their viewership.
Star Plus continued to rule the Hindi GEC leader board with 63.98 crore weekly impressions. But the channel saw a 5.67% fall in viewership over the week-ago period, BARC data showed.
Sony Pal, which maintained its second position with 59.51 crore weekly impressions for the third consecutive week, witnessed a decline of 0.66%.
With 57.06 crore weekly impressions, Colors, at the third spot, witnessed a drop of 3.39% in its viewership. The gap between Sony Pal and Colors also widened.
Zee Anmol, at No. 6, swapped places with Star Utsav.
Top 5 shows in U+R HSM
‘Naagin 2’ maintained its lead across all three markets. The show was No. 1 in urban + rural HSM and urban HSM on Colors. In the rural market, it was aired on Rishtey.
The positioning of the top five programmes remained unchanged, according to BARC data for the week ended 21 April.
Top Hindi GECs in urban HSM
As in the urban + rural markets, the Hindi GECs’ ratings also took a hit in the urban market. Star Plus and Colors maintained their lead in the first and second ranks respectively, but both channels witnessed a drop in their weekly impressions.
Star Plus, which garnered 42.84 crore weekly impressions, suffered a fall of 6.17%, whereas Colors recorded 37.32 crore weekly impression, registering a decline of 5.24%.
Zee TV, which swapped places with Sony Sab, was at the third position with 28.08 crore weekly impressions. Sony Pal moved up to the seventh rank while Rishtey fell to the eighth spot. The rest of the order remained unchanged.
Top 5 shows in urban HSM
Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ moved up to the second rank while Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ dropped to the third position.
The Star Plus show was followed by Colors’ ‘Shakti’ and Zee TV’s ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs’. Sony Sab’s ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’ went out of the list.
Top Hindi GECs in rural HSM
Sony Pal continued to rule the rural HSM chart with 44.81 crore weekly impressions, albeit seeing a drop. Rishtey maintained its No. 2 position with 38.61 crore weekly impressions.
Zee Anmol, which changed positions with Star Utsav, was No. 3 while Sony Sab was at the eighth spot. The hierarchy otherwise remained unaltered.
Top 5 shows in rural HSM
Zee Anmol’s ‘Jamai Raja’ was the most-watched show in rural HSM for Week 16. ‘Naagin 2’, which aired on Rishtey, dropped to the third rank from its earlier top position.
The rest of the order remained unchanged with ‘Balveer’ at second, ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltha Chashmah’ at fourth and ‘CID’ at fifth position.
