ETV News Network to launch Gujarati news channel on 21 June
MUMBAI: TV18-owned ETV News Network is all set to launch its first news channel under new owner Mukesh Ambani. Come 21 June, the news network that has been on a channel-launching spree of late will officially launch its Gujarati news channel ETV News Gujarati.
The channel will be launched in the presence of Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel tomorrow, said ETV News Network group editor Rajesh Raina.
This will be the fourth news channel launch from ETV in the last the three months. Earlier, ETV had launched ETV News Bangla, ETV News Kannada and ETV News Haryana/Himachal.
ETV’s other news channels include ETV Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand, ETV Madhya Pradesh/Chhattisgarh, ETV Rajasthan and ETV Bihar/Jharkhand.
The launch of ETV News Gujarati will mean that the news bulletins on TV18’s Gujarati entertainment channel ETV Gujarati will cease to exist.
The Gujarati news market comprises players like TV9 Gujarat, GS TV, Sandesh News and VTV.
ETV News Gujarati will have two main bureaus in Ahmedabad and Gandhi Nagar with sub-bureaus in each district.
Naresh Dave will be the editor of the channel while Neeraj Attri is the ad sales and marketing head. The news channel has an existing team of 150 journalists spread across the length and breadth of Gujarat.
IndiaCast, which is handling the distribution of the channel, is currently in negotiations with multi-system operators (MSOs) like GTPL, InCablenet and DEN Networks besides direct-to-home (DTH) operators.
The operations of the channel will initially be managed out of Hyderabad and after five–six months it will move to Ahmedabad, stated Raina.
ETV News Gujarati will air national and local bulletins in addition to non-news programmes like a devotional show in the morning and cookery show in the afternoon. The channel will also feature ETV’s popular talk show ‘Central Hall’.
The channel’s head of ad sales and marketing Neeraj Attri said that the channel is being aggressively promoted through hoardings in prime locations of Gujarat besides the ETV News Network.
Attri said that the ad market in Gujarat is potentially in the range of Rs 500–550 crore (Rs 5–5.5 billion) with national channels having the lion’s share of the pie.
