MUMBAI: Endemol Shine India is set to expand its popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ in new regional markets. After tapping the Kannada and Bangla markets, the production house is currently working on the Tamil and Telugu versions of the reality show.
‘Bigg Boss Tamil’ will be aired on Star India’s Tamil GEC Vijay TV from 18 June and will be hosted by veteran actor and film-maker Kamal Hasan. This will mark Hasan’s debut on television. It is reported that Hasan will shoot for few episodes of ‘Bigg Boss’ and then resume work on his multi-lingual comedy film ‘Sabash Naidu’.
The production house has built a lavish set at the EVP theme park in Chennai. The production crew for ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’ is based in Chennai.
Endemol Shine is also starting its production for ‘Bigg Boss Telugu’. The crew and the set for the Telugu version of the reality show will be based in Lonavala. The production house is currently building the crew and has not yet finalised the channel or host for the Telugu show.
The Kannada and Bengali versions of ‘Bigg Boss’ have already garnered positive response. In Kannada, ‘Bigg Boss’ is in its fourth season and has seen a considerable spike in viewership since its launch.
Endemol Shine India MD & CEO Deepak Dhar had earlier stated that not only had ‘Bigg Boss Kannada’ garnered great numbers in both seasons but it had also stacked up viewership for its respective broadcasting channels. Meanwhile, the Bangla version too has garnered 100 GRPs.
With ‘Bigg Boss 10’ (Hindi version) ending on a high note, Endemol Shine is working on the 11th season of the show.
