DD to strengthen primetime with 4 new shows
MUMBAI: After introducing a clutch of new show in August, DD National is all set to enter into its second phase of the revamp with the launch of four new shows to strengthen its primetime.
As was reported first by TelevisionPost.com, DD National was to undertake yet another revamp exercise in August 2015 to refresh its look and primetime slot in order to attract more metro audiences. As part of its strategy, five shows were launched in August and four were to be launched in October. A similar launch strategy will be adopted in the months of December and January 2016.
The new launches in October include two crime shows based on real stories ‘IPS Diary’ from 19 October and ‘Mashaal’ from 21 October followed by a daily soap ‘Albeli’ from 26 October and a singing reality show ‘Sur Sagar’ from 31 October.
DD National aims to stick to its promise of bringing in new content with shows of different genres. It launched its new look with a bunch of new shows in August, where period dramas, daily soaps and slice of life dramas filled the prime time slots.
DD National ADG programming Deepa Chandra said, “The slow and steady approach adopted by us, to garner good viewership and ratings, has started to show promising results. Keeping with that, our second stage of introducing fresh content in prime time band is beginning from 19 October.”
Starting off with two crime shows based on real stories ‘IPS Diary’ will air from 19 October every Monday and Tuesday at 10:30 pm, while ‘Mashaal’ will air from 21 October every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 pm.
‘IPS Diary’ will bring in a popular face from yesteryears, Kavita Choudhary, of ‘Udaan’ fame of the 1980s era on DD. She is featuring as a retired cop and will present crime cases.
From 26 October, the channel will air a daily soap ‘Albeli…Kahaani Pyaar Ki’ at 9:30 pm. It is a story of a Gujarati village girl who is married into a posh corporate family. The story revolves around how the rustic girl blends and blunders into a romance with the rich boy.
The weekend offering that DD National will bring this October is a singing realty show, ‘Sur Sagar’ with 20 bands and 20 singers competing for the title. The show starts from 31 October.
