Colors unseats Star Plus from Hindi GEC throne in Week 42
MUMBAI: Diwali has arrived early for Colors CEO Raj Nayak and his team. The Viacom18 flagship channel is wearing the Hindi GEC crown after a gap of 18 weeks.
Unseating Star Plus, Colors is ruling in both the urban + rural and the urban Hindi-speaking markets (HSM).
According to BARC data for Week 42, Colors has been catapulted to the top position by ‘Naagin’ season 2, ‘Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’ and ‘Udaan’. The season 10 of ‘Bigg Boss 10’ has also played its part in helping the channel to make the breakthrough.
More than Star Plus’ loss it was Colors’ gain that helped the latter to grab the top spot. While Star Plus lost just 0.74% weekly impressions over the previous week, Colors saw a 7.2% jump in impressions.
The Viacom18-owned channel made up for the slight dip in the viewership of ‘Naagin’ through the gains made by ‘Shakti’.
In some solace to Star India, its free-to-air (FTA) GEC Star Utsav moved up to the sixth position in the urban + rural HSM, from the eighth position it had held the week ago.
Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) slid down to the sixth and seventh position respectively. SAB TV took the ninth position, leaving Rishtey at the bottom of the heap.

There was no change in the top 5 shows, with Colors and Star Plus occupying two positions each. ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, Zee TV’s lone show in the top 5, moved to the third position.

SAB TV moved to the fifth position, while Life OK moved down to the sixth. The bottom four remained unchanged.
Top 5 shows in Urban HSM
Three of the top 5 shows in the urban HSM belonged to Colors—‘Naagin’, ‘Shakti’ and ‘Udaan’.
Star Plus and Zee TV had one show each.
Top Hindi GECs in Rural HSM
Sony Pal was pushed by Star Utsav to the third position, according to BARC data for Week 42.
Star Utsav progressed to the second position in the rural HSM even as Zee Anmol firmly held on to the numero uno position.
Colors exchanged the fifth position with Star Plus, which moved to the sixth position. The rest of the pecking order remained unchanged.
Top 5 shows in Rural HSM
The top five rural HSM programmes had three shows from Zee Anmol and one each from Star Utsav and Rishtey.
