Colors to take ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ off air by Sep end

MUMBAI: ‘Sasural Simar Ka’, one of Colors’ oldest and most talked-about shows, is in its last leg. The show will go off air by the end of this month.

Confirming the news, a channel spokesperson stated that the channel has decided to pull the plug on ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ as there are two news shows in the pipeline. “Though the date is not yet confirmed, the show will go off air by the end of this month,” the spokesperson added.

Colors is planning to launch two new shows—a romantic drama titled ‘Tu Aashiqui’ and a thriller titled ‘Ishq Mein Mar Jawan’. The channel hasn’t decided which of the two shows will replace ‘Sasural Simar Ka’.

‘Tu Aashiqui’ is a love story based on the film ‘Aashiqui’ and is conceptualised by Gurudev Bhalla Productions. It marks the return of actress Gauri Pradhan on the small screen. It features Jannat Zubair Rahmani as Pankti and Ritik as Ahaan.

‘Ishq Mein Mar Jawan’ is a suspense drama involving romance, betrayal and murder. Produced by Beyond Dreams, the show features Arjun Bijlani and Aalisha Panwar in lead roles.

‘Sasural Simar Ka’, produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms, premiered on 25 April 2011 and has since recorded about 1,933 episodes. The show, which is in its third season, is said to be the third-longest of currently running shows and the fifth-longest running show on Indian television. Oher long-running shows are ‘Balika Vadhu’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ and ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’.

The Indian daily soap opera went through several changes in its cast and faced several controversies. The first season starred Avika Gor of ‘Balika Vadhu’ fame and Dipika Kakar in the roles of Simar and Roli, respectively. Other actors such as Shoaib Ibrahim and Manish Raisinghan as Prem and Siddhant were cast opposite Gor and Kakar, respectively.

Ibrahim left the show in 2013 and was replaced by Dheeraj Dhoopar. In April 2016, Gor quit the show as she had problems with her shooting schedule. Then in March 2017 Kakar left the show, as she felt she was being typecast.

The show started as the story of two sisters, Simar (Kakar) and Roli (Gor), who marry two brothers, Prem (Shoaib Ibrahim / Dheeraj Dhoopar) and Siddhant (Raisinghan), respectively, and progressed to show how the two sisters became perfect daughters-in-law of the Bharadwaj family.

The second season featured Simar, Roli, Prem (Dhoopar) and Siddhant, and their struggle to protect the Bharadwaj family from some supernatural creatures wanting to destroy them. It became the most widely trolled season due to its plot line, which turned the protagonist Simar into a fly.

The ongoing third season saw a major leap and featured a new cast comprising Keerti Gaekwad Kelkar, Vaishali Takkar, Krissann Barretto, Varun Sharma, Nikki Sharma, Khushwant Walia, Kenisha Bharadwaj, Vandana Vithlani and Rohan Mehra.

The plot focuses on Simar (Kakar/Kelkar) and Prem’s (Dhoopar/Sayed) kids Anjali (Takkar), Sanjana (Barretto) and Piyush (Sharma), and how they help their children in their life.
