AXN to launch two drama series this week
MUMBAI: English entertainment channel AXN India is all set to launch two drama series this week, which include ‘Scorpion’ and the latest season of the singing reality show ‘The Voice’.
Launching on 26 September at 11 pm and airing every Friday, ‘Scorpion’ is a high-octane drama series based on the real-life story of Walter O’ Brien, super genius with the fourth highest IQ.
O’Brien was diagnosed as a child prodigy and was arrested at the age of nine for hacking NASA’s computer system. He went to the US on an ‘extraordinary ability’ visa which was earlier given to extraordinary people like Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill. O’Brien’s hacker name was Scorpion.
Directed by Justin Lin, ‘Scorpion’ focuses on a group of super-geniuses comprising O’Brien and his team of brilliant misfits who help solve complex, global problems. As Homeland Security’s new think tank, O’Brien’s ‘Scorpion’ team includes Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas), an expert behaviourist who can read anyone; Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), a mechanical prodigy; and Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham), a statistics guru.
The US series premiere of ‘Scorpion’ on 22 September witnessed 14 million viewers and was number 1 in its time period, as per the channel.
Meanwhile, the seventh season of ‘The Voice’ marking Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani’s debut will air from 27 September at 8 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
AXN India and Sony Pix EVP and business head Saurabh Yagnik said, “We have a power-packed September on AXN with two dynamic show launches. While ‘Scorpion’ is an inspiring story of the super-genius Walter O’Brien and his journey of ethical hacking, ‘The Voice’ is among the most popular international reality shows on TV. We are delighted to have it back on our channel for its latest season. Reality shows are always welcomed by the Indian viewers and with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams making their coaching debuts, Season 7 of ‘The Voice’ will surely get even bigger.”
‘The Voice’ is an innovative format which has music icons as coaches who form their teams through blind auditions (without seeing the contestants). The fresh season of the show will see singer Pharrell Williams and pop diva Gwen Stefani make their debut as the glamorous new coaches. They will join veteran voice coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
AXN will also hold a ‘Voice of Choice Contest’, a watch-and-win contest that requires the viewers to answer questions about their favourite coach on the show. With a new question every weekend, the viewers can respond via SMS, tweets or Facebook wall posts on the AXN India page to get close to the grand prize, where two lucky winners will get a chance to visit the sets of ‘The Voice’ in Los Angeles.
