AXN in content acquisition deal with CBS Studios International
MUMBAI: English GEC AXN India has announced a content acquisition deal with CBS Studios International.
AXN is building its relationship with the content distributor. In the past, it has aired shows like ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ and ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’. Now it has acquired five more shows – ‘Elementary’, ‘Beauty and The Beast’, ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’ and ‘Reckless’.
AXN India business head Sunil Punjabi said, “The current deal with CBS Studios International has only strengthened our long-standing relationship with them. AXN has always been the home to ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ and ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’. The new shows will further add approx. 100 hours of content airing close to the US every year. Some of the iconic shows that are being acquired are ‘Elementary’, ‘Beauty and The Beast’, ‘Hawaii Five-0’, ‘Blue Bloods’ among others. We are also bringing another brand new series called “Reckless,” which will be aired close to the US in India. This deal is all set to strengthen the ever-expanding bouquet of AXN programming.”
“’Elementary’” is a modern take on Sherlock Holmes, set in the United States.” Jonny Lee Miller, who plays the consultant for the NYPD, is seen with a female Dr. Watson played by Lucy Liu, who won the 2013 Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actress, Action. Another show that will be seen on the channel is “Beauty and The Beast,” which has had a viewership of over 1.3 million this season and won the 2013 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama. Sunil Punjabi added, “Lucy Liu adds a completely different take to “Elementary.” Her popularity will add more male-driven audiences to the channel”.
New seasons of ‘Elementary’ and ‘Beauty and The Beast’ kick off on 27 January.
