Amrita TV unveils programming line-up for Onam
MUMBAI: Malayalam general entertainment channel Amrita TV is celebrating an Onam extravaganza from 19-30 August, covering Atham and Onam festival days.
Every year, Malayalam GECs telecast three to four movies per day during the main Onam season. For Onam 2015, Amrita TV is moving away from this convention to bring entertaining content with a few ‘firsts’.
The channel will usher in the festival with a conversation with actor and comedian Jagathy Sreekumar, who was involved in a near-fatal road accident three years ago wherein he lost his faculty of speech and was confined to a wheel chair.
In his first television get-together with friends and family, the programme ‘Changathikoottam’ will be telecast in two one-hour episodes on 28 and 29 August from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, which are the Thiruonam and Avittom festival days.
Another first by the channel is bringing back the famous Malayalam actress Annie on the small screen after 19 years. Annie had made an impact in a span of just three years in Malayalam cinema before she retired for a married family life. She will be anchoring the show ‘Annie’s Kitchen’, wherein she will be in cookery conversation with leading celebrities of Malayalam cinema. Starting 24 August, the show will be aired every day at 7 pm.
The third show, ‘Vithum Kaikoottam’, will feature super stars like Mammootty, Srinivasan, Vijayraghavan and Krishnaprasad showcasing their passion for farming and organic agriculture. The show will take a trip to the farms of these actors and reveal the unpublicised personal aspects of their lives. The show will be telecast from 26 to 30 August at 8:30 am.
In addition to these programmes will be special fillers where Malayalam actors share their best memories of the festival. Mohanlal will share his experiences on 27 and 28 August at 9:30 pm, Suresh Gopi on 28 August at 12 noon, Kavya Madhavan on 28 August at 4:30 pm and Jayaram on 30 August at 7: 30 pm.
The channel has also shot a programme at Kargil peaks titled ‘Patalakkar’ that will air on 27 August at 12 noon. In the show, jawans converse with director Major Ravi.
Newly married actors will also celebrate their first Onam with Amrita TV on the show ‘Kodiyonam’ from 27-30 August at 11:30 am. It will feature Vinay Fort, Amla Paul, Jewel Mary and Jinus Kamal with their spouses.
Popular actor Dileep will also come on board as the anchor of the show ‘Dileepum Kuttikalum’. It will air on 27 and 28 August at 10:30 pm. Dileep will interact with kids and talk about various subjects which excite children.
Another show in the line-up is ‘Chingathil Kalyanam’, which will have comedian Suraj Venjaramood. It will air on 28 August at 5 pm. The hilarious mood is kept alive throughout Onam by way of a serial comedy show ‘Money Matters’ with Shajon and team, airing from 18 to 28 August at 8 pm. There will also be a political satire based on Onam titled ‘Maveli Nadakam’ on 29 August at 10:30 pm.
The show ‘Kavya Pustakamallo Jeevitham’, airing from 19 to 28 August at 7:30 pm, is a musical tribute featuring veteran playback maestro, P. Jayachandran.
To revive the forgotten melodies of Onam, Amrita TV is airing a reality show of Onam songs ‘Onam Melam’ from 19 to 28 August at 8:30 pm with composer M. Jayachandran and singer Ranjini Jose as judges.
Leading politicians with their families will be humming their favourite songs and recalling their Onam memories in the show ‘Smriti Mudrakal’ from 19 to 26 August at 5:30 pm. Meanwhile, a series of episodes will dwell on the culture and rituals associated with Onam. They will air from 19 to 28 August at 7:30 am.
Playback singers and musicians of various hues will have a musical session with composer, M. Jayachandran in ‘Sangeetha Smritikal’. It will air from 27 to 29 August at 10: 30 am.
Amrita TV will also be airing one hit movie daily at 1:15 pm during the Onam season.
