After Zee TV’s reign for a week, Star Plus reclaims top spot

MUMBAI: With no ‘Dangal’ airing, Hindi GEC Zee TV handed over the crown to genre leader Star Plus after ruling for a week.

Star Plus reclaimed its No. 1 position on the Hindi GEC leader board in the urban as well as rural Hindi-speaking market (HSM), according to BARC India data for Week 22.

In the previous week, Star Plus had slipped to the second position as Zee TV topped the chart. Zee TV had enjoyed a spike in rating thanks to its airing of the world TV premiere of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’. Besides, shows like ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs’, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and ‘Piya Albela’ helped the channel to garner impressions.

But in the week ended 2 June, Star Plus was back at the top position with 64.83 crore weekly impressions. However, the channel witnessed a decline of 4.11% compared to the earlier week.

Zee TV, on the contrary, suffered a steep fall of 22.28%, which brought it down to the third position; the channel’s total weekly impressions stood at 52.81 crore.

Sony Pal returned to the second spot with 59.18 crore weekly impressions, a decline of 5.66% compared to the previous week.

Rishtey and Colors maintained their earlier fourth and fifth ranks, though both saw a dip in their impressions. The rest of the chart remained unchanged.

Top 5 shows in U+R HSM

Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ maintained its lead on the charts while Colors’ ‘Naagin 2’ was the second top show.

Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and Zee TV’s ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs’ remained at the third and fourth spots respectively.

Star Plus’ ‘Naamkaran’ entered the chart at No. 5 after a long time.

Top Hindi GECs in Urban HSM

As in the urban + rural HSM, top-tier Hindi GECs in the urban market also witnessed a drop in their impressions.

Star Plus ruled the charts with 44.09 crore weekly impressions, a drop of 2.73%. Zee remained at No. 2 with 30.62 crore weekly impressions (-24.27%), followed by Colors with 29.85 crore weekly impressions (-7.02%).

While Star Utsav entered the chart at No. 10, Zee Anmol went out of the list. The rest of the order remained unchanged.

Top 5 shows in Urban HSM

Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ maintained its lead on the chart, followed by Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’.

Colors’ ‘Naagin 2’ jumped to the third spot while Zee TV’s ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs’ dropped to the fourth spot.

After a long time, SET’s ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ entered the chart, replacing Star Plus’ ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ at No. 5.

Top Hindi GECs in Rural HSM

In the rural HSM, Sony Pal continued to top the charts with 44.41 crore weekly impressions (-6.93%), followed by Rishtey with 37.57 crore weekly impressions (-2.93%). Zee Anmol maintained its third spot with 33.38 crore weekly impressions (-9.3%).

Star Utsav jumped to the fourth rank as Zee TV slipped to the fifth. Zee TV collected 22.18 crore impressions in Week 22, 19.37% less than the prior week.

The rest of the chart remained the unaltered.

Top 5 shows in rural HSM

Sony Pal topped the chart with ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltha Chashmah’, while the previous week’s leading show ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ on Zee TV slipped to the third spot.

Zee Anmol’s two shows, namely ‘Jamai Raja’ and ‘Tashan-e-Ishq’, secured the second and fifth positions. Meanwhile, Sony Pal’s ‘Balveer’ occupied the fourth spot.
