US-based Global Eagle acquires Western Outdoor Interactive

MUMBAI: US-based Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. (GEE), a NASDAQ-listed media and connectivity company for the travel industry, has acquired Mumbai-based in-flight entertainment company Western Outdoor Interactive (WOI).

WOI provides specialised services for GUI design, interactive application development, content update services, and software maintenance and support for in-flight entertainment (IFE). It claims to design and develop IFE software for over 50 airlines worldwide.

woi LOGOThrough the acquisition of WOI, GEE has expanded its digital media development expertise, along with strengthening its presence for apps and games to the IFE market.

Established in 1996, WOI brings experience and deep relationships with leading airlines and aviation hardware providers in bringing infotainment and specialised software to the airline industry.

According to GEE, WOI’s engineers and creative services provide design, web and app development expertise that augments GEE’s already strong platform.

The acquisition will help GEE to realise synergies through customer relationships, broader development and integration of its content, connectivity and digital media platforms.

Meanwhile, GEE has also acquired certain assets from RMG Networks Holding Corporation, thus bolstering its presence in the in-flight advertising and sponsorship industry. With the acquisition of rights to certain technologies , GEE will offer airlines and advertisers a more robust foundation.

Together, these deals strengthen and increase the scope of GEE’s offerings in the digital media and content services markets, providing GEE with a more integrated solution to meet the needs of the airline and maritime industries.
