Saregama launches classical music app
MUMBAI: Music label Saregama India has launched a classical music app that features over 8,000 musical works, 400 plus artists and 50 radio stations across Hindustani, Carnatic and fusion music.
Called ‘Saregama Classical’, the app is available across the world for classical music lovers to download on iOS and Android platforms.
Saregama India MD Vikram Mehra said, “Research shows that with the decline of the CDs, ardent classical music lovers in India and across the globe find it difficult to discover and consume music of their favourite artists. Hence, we decided to launch this unique app both for the music connoisseurs and those who want to get exposed to classical music. From the first recording of Ustad Bismillah Khan’s shehnai to the fusion music of Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, the app encapsulates, through its radio stations, loads of anecdotes about artists, instruments and raagas which will surely appeal to the smartphone-savvy music lovers.”
From the library of Saregama, the app boasts a rare portfolio of musical creations of accomplished artists like Pt. Jasraj, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Begum Parveen Sultana, MS Subbulakshmi, Karaikudi Mani, N Ramani, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and others, along with access to specially curated artist-dedicated radio stations and features to sort music by instruments, raagas and artists.
The offline feature on the app also allows users to download their favourite songs on the phone and listen to them later without any data charges.
The app is a free to download with a seven-day trial. Customers can then choose from monthly (Rs 99), semi-annual (Rs 445) and annual (Rs 690) subscription options.
The payment can be made either through the iTunes or through the Google Play Store, or through customers’ telecom operator or through credit card/net banking/debit card.
The launch event saw the presence of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Jasraj, Gulzar, Dr Balamuralikrishna, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan.
