Hungama Play adds Telugu content from Sun TV and Maa TV
MUMBAI: Video-on-demand (VoD) service Hungama Play has added Telugu content from South India’s leading entertainment conglomerates Sun TV Network and Maa TV.
Hungama Play has the largest Telugu catalogue in the app ecosystem. Of the total content library on Hungama Play, 25% of the movies are Telugu titles, making it the second-largest collection after Hindi movies.
Upcoming Telugu blockbusters on Hungama Play include ‘Baahubali’, ‘Attarintiki Daredi’, ‘Gabbarsingh’, ‘Race Gurram’, ‘Legend’, ‘Yevadu’, ‘Temper’, ‘Bengal Tiger’, ‘Gopal Gopala’, ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ and ‘Drishyam’.
The acquisition reiterates Hungama Play’s focus on South Indian market. The company said that there are more acquisitions in the pipeline.
Hungama Play aims to expand the library by adding over 300 Telugu films from the Maa TV catalogue along with future releases and over 220 films from the Sun Network library across all four Southern languages.
Speaking about the renewed focus on the Telugu market, Hungama.com CEO Siddhartha Roy said, “While the four south Indian languages constitute 38% of overall content consumption in India, Telugu is the third most consumed language on our app after Hindi and English respectively. Hence our association with market giants—Sun TV Network and Maa TV and our partnership with SIIMA further strengthens our resolve to deliver a unique experience to the Telugu speaking audience in their native language.”
Meanwhile, Hungama Music has also tied up with South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) for the second consecutive year. SIIMA will be simulcast exclusively on Hungama Play.
Subscribers will also be privy to behind-the-scenes action from the SIIMA event. Leading Telugu singers Srikrishna, Deepu, Saketh, Geeta Madhuri, Malavika, Pranavi, Anjana and many more will pay tribute to S Janaki exclusively on Hungama Play.
Hungama had recently raised $25 million in funding round led by Xiaomi along with existing investors Intel Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, and ace investor and Indian billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala.
The company is using the funding to grow Hungama Play including adding 1,500 hours of TV content and original programming.
