Antenna Group inks exclusive distribution deal with Viceland

MUMBAI: Antenna Group, an international media and entertainment organisation, has signed a deal with Vice Media’s youth-focused international TV network, Viceland, to become the exclusive distributor of the channel’s original content across Central and Eastern Europe.

The deal sees Antenna Group’s international distribution arm, Antenna International Enterprises, represent more than 300 hours of original Viceland content across CEE territories including Russia, Greece, Romania, Croatia and Hungary amongst other countries in the region, excluding Poland. The deal will incorporate Viceland’s library of flagship programming, along with select Vice Media shows including Emmy-Winning docu-series ‘VICE’, which explores global issues such as conflict and corruption, anti-government rebellions and climate change.

Announcing the deal, Antenna Group MD Pete Smith said, “We already have a highly successful, long-standing relationship with Vice Media and are delighted to now expand that partnership into content distribution. Antenna Group is a leading media company in Central and Eastern Europe with an unparalleled knowledge of and presence in the region. That, combined with our existing in-depth knowledge of Vice and its global content, makes us the perfect partner to increase awareness of its Viceland slate.”

Viceland has a catalogue of programming spanning factual, current affairs and entertainment formats, from original series such as the Emmy Award nominated LGBTQ documentary ‘Gaycation’ starring Ellen Page; investigative docu-series ‘Black Market’ starring Michael K Williams; Action Bronson’s culinary travel show ‘F*ck That’s Delicious’ and US late-night show ‘Desus And Mero’ fronted by the renowned “Bodega Boys” who offer viewers their singular take on politics, sports, entertainment.

Viceland International president, chief corporate development officer James Rosenstock commented, “A crucial region to Viceland’s on-going global expansion, we’re delighted to be furthering our relationship with Antenna Group, as we increase our footprint across Central and Eastern Europe. As a region that has embraced Vice content across our digital channels to date, we’re excited to be delivering Viceland’s new roster of programming to its audiences.”

This latest deal is a further expansion of Antenna Group and VICE Media’s existing partnership. In 2014 Antenna and VICE Media set up a joint venture in Greece, Serbia and Romania launching editorial and production operations to create and distribute content. Following huge success in reaching key younger demographics and viewer engagement, it was announced last year that the joint venture will expand to new territories including Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia.

International distribution of Vice content will be managed by Antenna Group’s head of distribution, Tatjana Pavlovic, and available to international broadcasters at this year’s NATPE Budapest market. Antenna has the international distribution rights to almost 10,000 hours of content across all genres. Titles include the recently announced new shock docu series exploring a range of startling traditions and customs from the Balkans region as well as long-running international drama show ‘Brousko’.
