Star India is still awaiting the ministry of information and broadcasting’s (MIB) to launch Star Sports 1 Kannada, according to a source close to the development.
MIB has shot off another letter to the chief secretaries of various state governments urging them to direct authorised officers to take action against cable operators transmitting analogue signals even after the cut-off date of 1 April.
Out of total revenue of Rs 236.5 cr in Q1, Hathway Digital’s placement income was Rs 70.2 cr. Subscription rev was Rs 132.5 cr. Pay channel cost was Rs 135.2 cr. Hathway Cable & Datacom’s subscription rev from broadband was Rs 129 cr. Broadband ARPU fell QoQ to Rs 730.
In Assam, the STB seeding percentage is 94% followed by Mizoram with 80%. Meghalaya’s STB seeding was just 69% while in Tripura it was only half complete with 49%.
Dish TV is looking to net 1.3 mn new subscribers this fiscal while ARPU could see a nominal increase. Capex could marginally rise in FY18 while operating profit margin is expected to inch back to 35%. Content cost is expected to increase in the range of 6-7%.

MIB has claimed that 66.79% or 6.44 cr STBs have been seeded in Phase III and IV areas of DAS excluding TN. Maharashtra has seen the highest STB seeding at 7.2 mn out of 10.1 mn TV homes. The total seeding percentage in the state stood at 71.18%.
DTH industry will add fewer subscribers this fiscal than the preceding year due to demonetisation and the absence of the Twenty20 WC. The six private DTH ops are expected to end FY17 with an addition of 9.5 mn gross subscribers as against 11.3 mn a year ago.
DEN Networks has bought an additional 37.57% shares in DEN Digital Cable Network. The increase in stake will help it to consolidate its cable TV biz in Haryana.
