CNN-News18 to Telecast World Exclusive Coverage Confirming Dawood’s Presence in Karachi
MUMBAI: CNN-News18 has secured clinching video evidence of Dawood Ibrahim’s presence in Pakistan, a claim denied by Islamabad for 23 long years. This evidence is proof of how Pakistan has sheltered India’s most wanted terrorist. CNN-News18 investigation reveals that Dawood’s presence in Karachi is common knowledge, which contradicts the constant denial by a series of governments in Pakistan of Dawood’s base there.
CNN-NEWS18 accessed hundreds of documents and spoke to security experts in Pakistan about the whereabouts of Dawood Ibrahim, responsible for the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that left more than 250 dead. In January this year, CNN-News18 checked all five addresses of Dawood mentioned in India’s dossier to Pakistan. Only one of the addresses in Karachi, D-13, Block 4, Clifton, was in a high security zone.
In February this year, CNN-NEWS18 got in touch with two Pakhtuns in Pakistan — one 28-year old and another 32-year old. Their names are being withheld for safety reasons. They made four rounds separately from different directions and spotted the house of Dawood Ibrahim. During the third round of recce, they checked about Dawood Ibrahim from a steetside stall. They found that in Clifton it’s easy to track Dawood and decided on a plan of action. They found out that that some construction was going on at Dawood’s house, and posed as building material suppliers looking for a contractor who had to pay them their dues.
The two made their fourth dry run on a motorcycle together and then shot their entire 500-odd metre ride on a mobile phone camera. Starting at Clifton Marquee, a banquet hall named after the affluent Karachi locality where Dawood lives, The CNN-News18 team stopped every 100 meters, asking about Dawood Ibrahim’s house. All those asked pointed to the same address D-13, BLOCK 4, CLIFTON. CNN-News18 also spoke to police officers in Karachi, the security guard at Dawood’s mansion and many other neighbours who confirmed that Dawood has been living in Clifton.
For 23 long years India has been in the pursuit of Dawood Ibrahim, even naming him as India’s most wanted in a dossier prepared by the previous NDA government. But the response from Pakistan for the last quarter of a century has been the same.
