Black Knight Decoded
MUMBAI: Fans from India are featured in Black Knight Decoded, an epic short film that imagines a rich narrative around what some people believe is a very real entity, the Black Knight satellite. Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo, SAG Award winner Freida Pinto, Emmy Award winning director Jabbar Raisani, bestselling author James Frey, Grammy Award winning entertainer Usher and a host of creative talent have come together to create the action-packed adventure produced by Pepsi in collaboration with Levity Entertainment Group (LEG) and UrtheCast, the ultra High-Definition video system located aboard the International Space Station. The film features a star-studded cast, an original track, “Miracles,” from Usher and participation from consumers across 11 countries who came together for this first-of-its-kind production as part of the Pepsi Challenge, the iconic beverage brand’s global 2015 program, which has galvanized consumers around the world to live life to the fullest and make every moment – big or small – epic. Black Knight Decoded is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RmSKT-9u_A
Black Knight Decoded tells a powerful story about a father (Oyelowo), his daughter (Layla Crawford) and co-conspirator (Pinto) on their quest to decode radio signals transmitted from the Black Knight satellite. As they struggle to respond before the government shuts down their mission, the group rely on support from communities around the world to come together to communicate universal messages of hope, unity and peace.
These global communities were brought to life by consumers who were invited to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity as part of the Pepsi Challenge and the release of the film concludes the 2015 global program. Throughout the year, Pepsi Challenges have been issued on Pepsi social channels, PepsiChallenge.com and via global and local ambassadors. Fans in more than 100 countries have participated in the Pepsi Challenge and the #PepsiChallenge program has generated more than 1.2 million mentions of the hashtag garnering more than 1.4 billion impressions globally.
Thousands of fans across Australia, China, the Czech Republic, India, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Russia, United Arab Emirates, the United States and Vietnam were challenged to create larger than life installations that were filmed from cameras on the ground and from UrtheCast’s cameras aboard the International Space Station and feature prominently in the film.
As part of the film, Pepsi India created a massive 5,000 sq.m. ‘Diya’ a symbol of hope, peace and unity. The formation was made on the grounds of New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and was filmed by UrtheCast’s proprietary HD video camera as the International Space Station orbits India
Anshul Khanna, Director-Marketing, Pepsi, PepsiCo India said, “Throughout 2015, as part of our global initiative #PepsiChallenge, we have created campaigns that have pushed boundaries and challenged limits to create consumer engagement that is not just spectacular, but also keeps fans ‘front and centre’. Black Knight Decoded is truly unmatched in not just its scale, but also in how it brings the world together in a way that only Pepsi can. We are thrilled that India is a part of this spectacular movie with an all-star cast, brilliant music, cutting-edge technology and unprecedented consumer participation.”
