Warner Bros.’ ‘Wonder Woman’ takes home $223 mn in opening weekend

MUMBAI: Warner Bros.’ ‘Wonder Woman’ has enjoyed a $223 million take on its opening box office weekend globally. $100.5 million out of that came from the US meaning that director Patty Jenkins has made the best opening for a movie by a woman.

Comscore has announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of 4 June, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Using her super powers to create powerful box office numbers around the world, Warner Bros.’ ‘Wonder Woman’ enjoys a fantastic $223 million global debut that was bigger than even the most generous projections and puts the DC Comics brand on a newly reinvigorated path to critical and box office success. Notably, Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ crosses the $500 million mark worldwide this weekend while Universal’s ‘The Fate of the Furious’ is on track to raise its international total to $1.004 billion.”

“Patty’s vision mesmerized the audience. She is a real talent. Clearly, this is a movie that is resonating with moviegoers around the globe. I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Diana on the big screen,” Warner domestic distribution president Jeff Goldstein told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’.
