Times Group’s Worldwide Media gets support of Reliance Jio for maiden show ‘Famously Filmfare’
MUMBAI: Worldwide Media (WWM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL), is foraying into television and digital content production with the launch of its first chat show ‘Famously Filmfare’.
The company has signed a commercial agreement with Reliance Jio, whereby Jio is a title sponsor for the chat show. ‘Famously Filmfare’ will also premiere on Jio’s OTT platform Jio TV, followed by its telecast on Colors Infinity.
Talking about the partnership with Jio, Worldwide Media CEO Deepak Lamba said, “We have inked a commercial agreement under which ‘Famously Filmfare’ will be premiered first on Jio TV. With this association, Filmfare will be bringing all its newest offering on two platforms, i.e. digital and television. It’s not just important to make good content, but it’s also necessary to market the content. Jio is a title sponsor for the show. We both are trying to promote the show across all verticals. Jio is airing the promos of the show in between IPL matches as well, whereas we are constantly running the promos on our channels like Comedy Central and Colors Infinity. This is something that we had done previously with Filmfare Awards.”
To be premiered on Jio TV on 12 May, the show will be showcased on the OTT platform every Friday. It will air on Colors Infinity from 14 May, every Sunday, at 9 pm. The first season consists of 10 episodes.
A Jio spokesperson commented, “Jio has created a seamless digital life experience for Indian audiences and we believe this premiere will present an exciting on-the-go experience for the movie fans. This innovation will also allow film enthusiasts to engage with their favourite stars on a variety of digital platforms.”
Hosted by Filmfare editor Jitesh Pillai, the first episode will feature Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, followed by several other Bollywood A-listers. The celebrities to feature on the show include Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Varun Dhawan, Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh and more.
The chat show will give audience more personal insight into the life of their favourite celebrities. The show will deal with topics like their childhood, struggles, their backstory and more.
Revealing more about the show Lamba stated, “Since Pillai has known these stars for long, it will be a very easy-going communication. We wanted the show to be about the celebrities; hence, we haven’t invested much in sets and other jazz. The sole focus will be on Pillai and the celebrity of the day.”
Following the success of this season of ‘Famously Filmfare’, WWM is already thinking of bringing the second season of the chat show after a gap of six months. In the meantime, the company plans to bring the show in other regional languages such as Marathi, Tamil and Bengali. “We have given much thought on the regional show yet. But the regional chat show will feature celebrities from the particular regional cinema and the show will be hosted by someone who is well versed in that cinema,” Lamba added.
After the chat show, WWM will be focusing on a travel series for which they have collaborated with their brands Top Gear and Lonely Planet. The series will be a cross between travel and reality. The company has associated with Maruti Nexa for the show and will feature seven celebrities on a road trip from Delhi to Bangkok via the Asian Highway along with their fans. The show will be aired on Discovery Channel on 21 May at 9 pm.
