Sony Pictures Television sells ‘Battle Creek’ globally
MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has sold its hotly anticipated new drama ‘Battle Creek’ to over 100 territories across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America.
‘Battle Creek’ tells the story of Russ Agnew, a successful small town detective whose local preeminence is challenged by the arrival of a big-city FBI agent.
Territories in which the 13 episode one hour drama has been licensed include TF1 in France; RTL in Germany; RTE in Ireland; 365 Media in Iceland; NOS in Portugal; Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) in Austria; ICTV in Ukraine; CANAL+ in Spain; D-Smart in Turkey and Turkish speaking Cyprus, as well as Rostelecom and SPT Networks in Russia.
MTG has picked it up for its free TV channels and SVOD rights for online streaming service Viaplay in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The series has also been secured by HOT for Israel and M-Net for Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana.
Additionally, ‘Battle Creek’ has been licensed by Seven Network in Australia and TVNZ for TV One in New Zealand, as well as the online streaming service iQiyi in China and by Fox International Channels across eight territories in Southeast Asia.
The drama has also been picked up in Canada by Shaw Media and in Brazil by Globo TV.
SPT president, international distribution Keith LeGoy said, “Two of television’s best storytellers have come together to create a great buddy cop story. ‘Battle Creek’ had a strong debut this week in the U.S., performing especially well with a broad audience, so we anticipate viewers around the world will find this series equally engaging.”
The series premiered on CBS in the U.S. on Sunday, ranking No. 1 in its time slot among total viewers. CBS made a straight to series order for ‘Battle Creek in the US, commissioning 13 episodes in September 2013 for the following fall season.
