Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ fails to meet expected Eid collection
MUMBAI: Salman Khan’s latest release ‘Tubelight’ has failed to keep up with the collection of his earlier Eid releases, amassing only Rs 19.09 crore domestically, which is meagre by the superstar’s standards.
In the past, Khan’s films set new records and did roaring business on Eid, but this time ‘Tubelight’ even failed to cross its opening day figure. The film was predicted to cross Rs 100 crore following the extended weekend, but it has so far collected a total of Rs 83.86 crore at the home box office.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared “Tubelight Fri 21.15 cr, Sat 21.17 cr, Sun 22.45 cr, Mon 19.09 cr [Eid]. Total: Rs 83.86 cr India biz. What’s surprising is that #Tubelight hasn’t crossed Rs 30 cr *on a single day* till now… Not on Sun… Not even on Mon [Eid holiday].”
The film saw a decent start as it collected Rs 20.75 crore on its first day. This figure was followed by Rs 21.17 crore on Saturday and Rs 22.45 crore on Sunday.
While ‘Tubelight’ is struggling to attract audiences on its home ground, the film is making its mark at the world-wide box office. Combined, the film (Hindi version only) has crossed Rs 100 crore within three days of its release.
Trade analyst Ramesh stated, “As of Monday, ‘Tubelight’ reaches the $1-million mark at the US box office $1,027,829 [Rs 6.62 cr]. As of June 23–25 at WW BO: net is Rs 64.77 cr; gross is Rs 93.26 cr and overseas is Rs 22.55 cr, which amounts to a total of Rs 115.81 cr.”
‘Tubelight’ ranks third globally in terms of collection by an Indian film at the opening weekend. With a total of Rs 115.81 crore, the film falls behind Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’, which collected Rs 129 crore and SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, which earned a whopping Rs 210 crore.
However, in the coming days, ‘Tubelight’ can cross 100 crore in India as well, considering there is no big-budget movie releasing in the next two weeks. The film will mark Salman Khan’s 11th film to enter the Rs 100-crore club.
