Rooter brings Opta Sports on board as data partner for ICC Champions Trophy 2017

MUMBAI: Rooter, the world’s first digital platform that connects, engages and helps sports audiences interact with each other on a real-time basis during sports events, has announced its partnership with Opta Sports, the world’s largest sports data brand.

Under the partnership, Opta will power all data points – including live scores, commentary, and stats – for cricket, football, F1, basketball, and tennis on Rooter, beginning next week during the ICC Champions Trophy.

The increase in the number of available real-time data points to around 50 will also significantly enhance the user experience on the platform. Rooters playing the Live Match Prediction game will have convenient access to in-depth match insights, allowing them to make more accurate and data-driven predictions.

To understand the depth of data that Opta Sports enables, consider this: it has over 35 data points per delivery of cricket, with a database dating back to 1876. It also offers a collection of over 2500 actions with the ball during a single 90-minute football match.

Elaborating on the scale of data analytics on offer post the tie-up, Rooter founder and CEO Piyush said, “In today’s world of sports, every action is critically analyzed and interpreted through data. The partnership with Opta Sports, which is a global leader in sports data, will transform the user experience on Rooter. Exhaustive match insights will assist Rooters in making extremely data-driven predictions, increasing their enjoyment and engagement with the app. With every flick, hit, and miss in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy under intense scrutiny, we are confident that user experience on our platform will reach unparalleled heights.”

Commenting on the tie-up, Perform Group India head of content distribution Subhayu Roy said, “Since its launch, Rooter has been redefining live sports fan engagement with its differentiated approach. Its user acquisition and engagement numbers are testimony to the appeal of features like Live Match Prediction and chat forums, which have received overwhelming response from its users. Through our comprehensive and unparalleled collection of sports data, Rooter users can have a significantly more detailed, insightful, and enjoyable engagement experience.”
