Novex acquires PPL rights to Eros’ music library
MUMBAI: After acquiring rights from Yash Raj Films, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) and Shemaroo, Novex Communications has partnered film and entertainment company Eros International for their music catalogue.
Novex has signed a deal with Eros International to acquire the rights to their existing film music library. The company has been authorised by Eros to exploit public performance licensing (PPL) rights in the sound recordings of songs, making it one of the leading players in the segment. The deal will be effective from 1 April.
The company will have access to music albums of films such as ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’, ‘English Vinglish’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Cocktail’, ‘R…Rajkumar’ and ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’.
Any commercial establishment such as hotels and event organisers will have to obtain licence from Novex and pay a fee to play audio music for their patrons, the rights of which are with Eros.
The agreement will include other commercial establishments such as airports, amusement parks, art galleries, banks, beauty parlours, bowling alleys, buses, cinemas, clubs, dance centres, discotheques, DJs, exercise classes, exhibitions, factories, hospitals, magic shows, museums, nursing homes, offices, railways stations, railway trains, reception areas, shops, spectator sports, swimming pools and theatres. Any musical composition, sound recording or any part thereof, in any format, for the purpose of profit or entertainment in a place will need a ‘Novex Music Licence’ from the copyright owner or authorised agent of copyright owner.
The deal also gives the copyright owner an authority to initiate legal action against any establishment, found to be playing their music anywhere in India, without authorisation.
Earlier in February 2017, Novex signed a deal with Shemaroo, which gave Novex copyright on the sound recording of Shemaroo-owned film songs. According to that deal, event organizers or any commercial establishment such as hotels have to obtain a licence from Novex and pay a fee to play audio music for their patrons, the rights of which are with Shemaroo.
Novex also has association with Zee Music Company and Yash Raj Films (YRF). The content agent has access to film songs from ‘Sairat’, ‘Dangal’, ‘Rock On’, ‘Baar Baar Dekho’, ‘Befikre’, ‘Fan’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Band Bajaa Baraat’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Raees’ and more.
The company also has access to certain future releases such as YRF’s ‘Bank Chor’, ‘Hindostan’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’; and Zee Music’s ‘Half Girlfriend’, ‘Secret Superstar’, ‘Sairaat’ (remake in Hindi), ‘Student of the Year 2’ and ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’.
Novex Communications’ clients include Taj Hotel Resorts and Palaces, ITC Hotels, The Leela, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, The Lalit, The Park, Shangri-la Hotels & Resorts, Samhi, Lemon Tree Premiere, Mariott Hotels, Resorts & Suits, Club Mahindra, Destiny Group, DNA, Wizcraft, Cineyug, Encompass, Croma, Aditya Birla, Globus, Walmart, Reliance Retail, Pizza Hut Delivery and Jumbo.
