Mashable partners ZEEL JV India.com to launch India edition

MUMBAI: US news portal Mashable has partnered ZEEL affiliate India.com, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation (PMC) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), to launch Mashable India.

Mashable will have an editorial team based in India for localised content to serve the growing and connected Indian audiences.

It will offer the global coverage from Mashable.com and enhance it with extensive editorial coverage from India. The site will also leverage the audience reach of India.com network properties.

“We believe that the combination of Mashable and India.com will provide a unique content destination curated for India’s fast-growing online generation. We look forward to working with the Mashable team around the world to create a truly world-class and innovative site at Mashable India,” said ZEEL MD and CEO Punit Goenka.

Approximately half of Mashable’s 42-million monthly unique visitors come from outside the US, with India being a top five market for the company.

With its growing mobile and internet user base, India has become a hot destination for global digital news outlets that are collaborating with Indian companies to launch localised products. Some of the international news brands to launch in India include Huffington Post, Business Insider, Quartz, and Ad Age.

India.com currently publishes original content destinations that include BGR.in, CricketCountry.com, BollywoodLife.com, TheHealthSite.com, Prepsure.com, BrownPaperBag.in and India.com. Altogether, India.com properties reach out to over 45 million unique visitors per month.

This new online destination will bring together Mashable’s mission of inspiring and informing its global community about how digital and technology are changing the world with India.com’s strength in generating original content for Indian audiences and widespread reach in the Indian digital space.

The addition of Mashable India will continue Mashable’s global expansion, which began last year with the opening of a UK office, while also adding reporters in Australia and building a strong network of global journalists.
