‘Game of Thrones’ is 2015’s most-pirated TV show

MUMBAI: HBO’s Emmy-winning drama ‘Game of Thrones’ has become the most-pirated TV show for the fourth straight year.

Copyright and privacy news site Torrent Freak reports that an estimated 14.4 million people downloaded the show illegally in 2015. In the previous year, the show had attracted 8,100,000 illegal downloads.

That ‘Game of Thrones’ would win the crown was obvious earlier this year when 2.2 million people downloaded the ‘Kill The Boy’ episode within 12 hours of its premiere.

Taking the second spot was ‘The Walking Dead’ with an estimated 6.9 million downloads in 2015, up from 4.8 million a year ago. The third-most pirated TV show in 2015 was ‘Big Bang Theory’ with an estimated 4.4 million downloads compared to 3.9 million in the earlier year.

4. Arrow – 3.9 million

5. The Flash – 3.6 million

6. Mr. Robot – 3.5 million

7. Vikings – 3.3 million

10. Suits – 2.6 million

Incidentally, the most pirated film of 2015 was Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’. ‘Furious 7’ followed next while the third spot was occupied by ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
