‘Finding Dory’ swims close to $400 mn globally

MUMBAI: ‘Independence Day Resurgence’ on the opening weekend made $143.7 million globally. In the US, though, the film disappointed with $41.6 million.

‘Independence Day Resurgence’ was in second place behind ‘Finding Dory’ which stayed strong and made $73.2 million in the US.

Globally ‘Finding Dory’ is nearing the $400 million mark since its release.

‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ follows the lead of ‘Warcraft’ for whom the international box office is far more important than the US.

‘Warcraft’ has crossed $400 million globally and has enjoyed a tremendous performance in China. ‘The Conjuring 2’ is closing in on the $250 million mark globally.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ has crossed the $500 million globally. For these films too the international box office has been crucial. ‘The Jungle Book’ has crossed $900 million globally.

comScore has announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of 26 June, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “International audiences responded to ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ by powering the sequel to the number one spot this weekend with $102.1 million in 57 territories around the world and combined with North America, topped the global chart with $143.7 million. On the animated side of life, Disney’s ‘Finding Dory’ continues to swim along and nears the $400 million mark in global waters.”
