‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ nears $500 mn mark

MUMBAI: ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ is nearing the $500 million mark at the global box office.

Warren Beatty’s much awaited comeback film ‘Rules don’t Apply’ has failed at the box office. Brad Pitt’s new movie ‘Allied’ also had a poor response.

comScore has announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of 27 November 2016, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “With magical openings in China and Japan, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ conjured up another $132.0 million internationally this weekend on approximately 33,700 screens in 67 markets for a global total with the addition of North America of $473.7 million through Sunday.  Disney’s debut of ‘Moana’ in just 12 international markets (incl. China) earned $16.3 million for a global weekend debut of $71.823 million, $97.4 million to date and many more markets set to open in the coming weeks.”

Talking to ‘Variety’ about the performance of ‘Allied’, Paramount head of marketing and distribution Megan Colligan said, “It’s just okay, and over Thanksgiving you always hope for something a little better than okay. The bright spot is that there’s not a lot of competition in the marketplace over the next few weeks and our audience takes a minute to get to the theater.”
