Disney crosses $6 bn at the box office in a year for the first time

MUMBAI: For the first time in its history, Disney has crossed $6 billion globally in a year at the box office.

This milestone has been reached after Disney’s latest Marvel superhero movie ‘Doctor Strange’ with Benedict Cumberbatch made $203.7 million in its opening weekend globally.

comScore has announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of 6 November as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.

comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “A doctor, some cute trolls and an accountant top the global box office chart this week as Disney’s latest Marvel epic ‘Doctor Strange’ worked its box office magic, conjuring up an incredible $203.7 million globally this weekend and $325.4 million to date. Meanwhile, a group of adorable singing ‘Trolls’ added $75.6 million to their bottom line for a running global total of $149.6 million and in third place, Ben Affleck in ‘The Accountant’ crossed the $100 million mark worldwide.”
