CNN International to present special digital series on India’s 70th I-Day
MUMBAI: CNN International is all set to present a digital series,‘Birth of 2 Nations’, as part of its special coverage on the eve of 70th independence of India and Pakistan.
The series examines young nations on the march through the prism of their history, politics, sports and cultural life.
Tapping into the power of CNNVR, the immersive journalism unit and virtual reality platform within CNN Digital, CNN will provide viewers an immersive experience of the Rashtrapati Bhavan with 360-degree footage of the presidential residence.
Speaking about the initiative, CNN Digital Asia director Marc Lourdes said, “We are delighted to be announcing our special digital initiatives as one of the world’s most vibrant democracies celebrates 70 years of its independence. The special campaign reaffirms our on-going commitment to India and bringing our global audiences compelling content from this vital and dynamic region.”
A special interactive on the ‘Memories of the Independence generation’ will look into the recollections of the last people to remember an undivided India. This will include commentary by Partition documentarians including Urvashi Butalia, Aanchal Malhotra, Rana Chhina and Mallika Ahluwalia. A digital feature will focus on the first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech and how it is viewed by the youth today as well as older generations.
‘India in three generations’, an illustrated write by Indian cartoonist Arpan Roy, will look at India from the lens of his grandfather, father and himself. A special digital piece will take viewers inside Burns Road in Karachi, where shopkeepers are the descendants of partition refugees, providing a slice of Delhi in Karachi by serving authentic Delhi food.
A special poll is being conducted on what an all-time “Subcontinent XI” cricket team would look like, spanning the greats from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Voting is open now on at http://cnn.it/2wzbvUA and the results will be announced mid-September.
