Canal+ Group’s Thema to float India subsidiary

MUMBAI: Pay TV channel distributor Thema, a Canal+ Group company, is floating a subsidiary in Mumbai to expand its business operations in Asia.

The India subsidiary will be in charge of developing business operations across the Indian subcontinent. This will include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Maldives.

The new move is part of Thema’s strategy to consolidate a global distribution network in line with its clients’ needs worldwide.

Manivel Malone has been appointed managing director of Thema South Asia. He will be working from Mumbai from 1 January 2018.

Simultaneously, Alexandre Bac has been named MD of Thema Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.

Both will report to Thema Group head of distribution Arnaud Verlhac, based in Paris.

Malone, 48, started his career at MCM International in 1995 as assistant manager for Europe, and then created that company’s Pacific Asian operation in 1997. After four years as SVP of international business development at Fashion TV, he joined Thema in 2005 as MD Asia Pacific, and opened the Singapore office in 2010. He speaks French, Tamil, Hindi and English.

Bac, 32, a master’s graduate in international trade and marketing from Burgundy School of Business in France, also graduated from Taiwan’s Feng Chia University. After a first experience in Motion Caption in The Netherlands at Xsens Technologies in 2010, Alexandre integrated the International Department of Burgundy Council, for the international development of local enterprises for Asia Pacific based in Singapore. He’s been head of business development at Thema Asia Pacific since 2012. He speaks French and English.
