Abundantia Entertainment steps up development plans after first movie ‘Baby’

MUMBAI: Vikram Malhotra-promoted independent motion pictures studio Abundantia Entertainment has turned a year old and, buoyed by the success of its first film ‘Baby’, aims to step up plans to produce progressive and profitable content that appeals to sensibilities of moviegoers.

The studio’s next production ‘Airlift’ will be a period drama, bringing to screen the untold story of the world’s largest evacuation ever. A joint production venture with Nikhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment, the film has just started rolling.

Other upcoming films from the studio include Nikhil Advani’s urban corporate drama ‘Bazaar’, Nishikant Kamat’s untitled period mystery, a Neeraj Pandey-produced edgy comedy set in Old Delhi titled ‘Saat Uchhakkey’, as well as a slate of films under the supervision of Pandey and Advani.

As part of its content development strategy, the company has acquired remake and adaptation rights to several regional films and books.

Abundantia Entertainment founder and CEO Vikram Malhotra said, “We are delighted with the successful outing of ‘Baby’ and couldn’t have asked for a better debut for Abundantia and its motion pictures business. The audience and commercial response to ‘Baby’ has further boosted our confidence that India’s moviegoers are turning a corner as far as their tastes and preferences are concerned. Given the nature of new-age content that is under rapid development at Abundantia, I am excited about the future that this business holds for us.”

Based on its ‘talent–corporate partnership’, Abundantia has already lined up a bouquet of films helmed by directors like Neeraj Pandey, Nikhil Advani, Shoojit Sircar and Nishikant Kamat.

Abundantia, in partnership with Crouching Tiger Motion Pictures, recently produced the Akshay Kumar-starrer film ‘Baby’, which has received positive box-office response. Taking forward the successful first outing, the sequel to ‘Baby’ was also recently announced for release in 2017.
