MIB directs broadcasters, teleport ops to adhere to uplinking, downlinking guidelines

MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has issued a notice to all broadcasting companies having permission for TV channel/teleport to follow the uplinking and downlinking guidelines.

The ministry has directed the broadcasters and teleport operators to follow clauses 3.1.4, 5.8 and 5.10 of the Policy Guidelines, 2011 for Uplinking and Clause 5.11 of Downlinking Guidelines of private satellite TV channels.

As per these clauses, the permission holding companies are required to intimate ministry if there are any changes in their shareholding pattern (SHP).

Further, before effecting any change in their CEO/ Board of Directors, the companies are required to take prior permission from the ministry.

The companies are also required to maintain prescribed net worth and ensure their continued eligibility throughout the period of permission.

The ministry noted that some broadcast companies and teleport operators are not fulfilling the above-mentioned clauses.

“In view of the foregoing, all broadcast companies and teleport operators are required to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by this Ministry. They are also advised to keep their data updated on the Ministry of Corporate portal/website,” the ministry said in the order.
