Shweta Purandare to succeed Alan Colaco as ASCI secy general

MUMBAI: Advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has announced that its secretary general Alan Colaco will be succeeded by Shweta Purandare with effect from 1 June 2014. Colaco will retire from the organisation on 30 May.

Colaco remained with ASCI through the month of May to ensure a smooth and successful transition for his successor Purandare, who is currently serving the organisation as chief operations officer.

ASCI chairman Partha Rakshit said, “Alan will be greatly missed by ASCI members for his tremendous commitment to excellence. While we are indebted to him for his exemplary service to ASCI’s mission, we are also confident that his successor Shweta will demonstrate strong leadership skills and analytical insights, further supporting the association’s vision and mission.”

Collaco stated, “I am grateful to the ASCI team for offering me the desired platform to get associated with India’s largest self-regulatory voluntary organisation of the advertising sector. I am deeply honoured to have had the opportunity to be in the core team of ASCI, supporting the association’s vision of protecting the interests of the consumers.”

In her new role, Purandare will continue to handle consumer complaints. In addition, she will be leading the marketing, public relations and social media initiatives for the ASCI.

Purandare has over 22 years of industry experience, having worked with companies like Cipla, Merind, P&G and L’Oreal. She has been actively associated with ASCI as chief operations officer for the past one year.

The council has also announced the appointment of Ashutosh Geedh in the newly created role of chief administrative officer. Geedh will report to the secretary general. He will broadly be responsible for administration, finance and accounts, HR, legal, IT, and internal and external communications.

“The appointment of Ashutosh will further strengthen the association’s operations, thereby ensuring seamless functioning across various departments and external bodies,” Rakshit added.

Geedh has over 19 years of experience in companies including Patni Computers, LIC, Securex Capital Advisors and Towering Heights Telecommunications.
